Spotted this yesterday. It was a legit CSX with a manual transmission. Does Hawaii have less strict import rules?

The person might have registered it as a Civic to get past import laws. I mean, let’s admit it, if you didn’t look closely, this could look like a very lightly modded Civic, right?

Ah ha, the mystery of where GM inspired the Chevy crude's tail lights from is solved! The puzzle is complete.

Ive seen several CSX’s in America which have been imported from Canada. I think because Canada's laws are so similar, that the cars are legal in America.

It’s probably a Civic with Acura CSX parts stuck on. Same as this -
(It’s actually a Pontiac GTO)

Yeah, it does look very similar to a Civic. When I first saw it I thought, “This looks like a Civic but something is not quite right.” Then I realized why.

True, the Civic and the CSX are practically the same car.

Yeah, that is probably it.

I’m guessing it’s a wannabe JDM bro or whatever. It’s not that hard to source parts and stick them on a Civic.

I should’ve asked the owner what the deal was.

Actually, on second thought it’s probably just something brought from Canada. That’s what the JDM people are into now I hear.

The guy driving it did not seem like a JDM bro at all. He was middle-old age.

Ah, then probably just somebody who drove to Cali, took the ferry to Hawaii and registered it as a Honda Civic.

I’m gonna take a wild guess and say they moved here from Calgary.
America is weird when it comes to touristy/island locations, anyway. I saw two legally registered Suzuki Jimnys on St. John in the US Virgin Islands, plus a few Toyotas that are only available in the mainland states as Lexuses. It’s probably only legal due to the fact that it’s on a fairly small island and won’t be travelling across state lines or anything.

To everyone saying it’s registered as a Civic: nope. Put the plate in CarFax, and it still says it’s a 2006 Acura CSX.

“Took the ferry to hawaii” Are there actually ferries that go the 2,467 miles from the continent?

Huh, I thought there used to be one for some reason.
I do know that you can have your car shipped though.

The most likely explanation is a good friend or relative at City Hall who just put it in the system as all fine. It’s Hawaii, a large amount of people on each island are friends and/or relatives who see each other at the beach every weekend, and at auntie’s for dinner. Or he went through the expense of having it imported legally so that he could be the only guy on the island with one.
(Some of the comments say that the car is available in Canada, and there are a lot of Snowbirds.)
